Lady Mariéme Jamme, a globally recognized technology activist focused on empowering women, BBC Top 100 Women nominee, and multiple award-winning leader, visited Georgia on an official trip.
The goal of her visit was to establish the iamtheCODE chapter in Georgia, which offers over 60,000 courses in 18 languages worldwide. These certified courses will be offered for free to all partner members as a gift.
It’s worth mentioning that the project offers 250,000 free accounts, with 50,000 of them specifically focused on artificial intelligence.
On February 11th, an event was held to mark the launch of the iamtheCODE organization in Georgia, organized through a partnership between UN Women, BTU, the Danish government, and D Block. This initiative will support the education and technological development of women and girls.
During the event, Lady Mariéme Jamme delivered a Keynote Speech, where she shared her experience, the mission of the organization, and the range of opportunities that will be available to Georgia through this initiative.
A panel discussion followed, with representatives from important organizations working on women’s empowerment, including: Professor Nino Enukidze, Rector of the Business and Technology University (BTU); Kaori Ishikawa, Head of the UN Women Georgia Office; Bergliot Hovland, Ambassador of Norway to Georgia; and Ane Toft Sørensen, Ambassador of Denmark to Georgia.
With over two decades of invaluable business experience in technology and system change, Lady Mariéme Jamme has garnered extensive knowledge and expertise in her field. She is the Founder and Chief Sustainability Offer of iamtheCODE, the first African-led global movement to mobilize government, the private sector, and philanthropic foundations to advance S.T.E.A.M.D. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics and Design) Education.
Her goal is to empower and enable 1 million girls and young women globally to become coders by 2030 and align with the U.N. 2030 Agenda. She is an award-winning Technologist and a Young Global Leader of the World Economic Forum.
IamtheCODE, which currently operates in 87 countries, aims to retrain 1 million young women, teens, and children in programming by 2030. Georgia will play an important role in this initiative as one of the regional leaders in the development of technology education and innovation for women and girls.
